There are great resources out there today making the home search a little easier, and it used to be if you find a home you like you take your tape measure and if the agent has any ideas how to make a place work for you would listen to the suggestion. Take the measurements or floorplan and hope for the best. I still think having a tape measure when you look at places is a wise decision or better yet your agent should always have one on them, but if they don’t there are some great application out there that helps you figure things out. Many of the applications can be found on my website and can be downloaded to your Ipad or smartphone.
Worst words an agent wants to hear once you have found a place you love especially if you happen to be at the moving stage is my stuff doesn’t fit. Wouldn’t it be nice to have known that before you started the moving process? This first application is a great tool it allows you to take a picture of a room and it creates a floor plan. Once the floorplan with MagicPlan is created you can figure out how you will place your furniture or most important figure if all your stuff will fit. The application works with iPhone and iPads. The best part of this great application is it costs you nothing to get it. MagicPlan which you can find in the apple app store to download for free.
Maybe you have taken measurements of the room and just can’t picture the room visually.
I had a client once if you told them the room was 12×12 it meant nothing to them, but if they saw a blueprint of the room it made complete sense to them visually how to work with space. The visual planner will love Havertys.com, floorplan.com, google sketch up and homestyler.com allow you to put in dimensions of the room and it will create a floor plan some in 3-D. Some application allows you to put dimensions of furniture in so you can play around with a room and figure where to put things in the room. Just think if you mapped out where your furniture was going on a floor plan you could tell the movers put this there, and this there saving you time and energy when you move. I find much of these tools are helpful to clients who are downsizing from a larger home to a smaller condo. All these applications you can find on pageinnisrealestate.com under the getting settled section. Wouldn’t it be nice to make the transition to your home a little easier?
Maybe you’re the house hunter who can judge the space but are decorating challenged. Wouldn’t you have a sigh of relief if you could have some help in figuring out the best way to put your own personal style on your place and maximizing the living space? Maybe you want your space to feel less cluttered but can’t figure out the best way to decorate their space without making it feel cluttered. There is great online resources and application that don’t give your wallet workout but will max your time in figuring out a solution to decorating your space. Some sites can help you figure out everything from paint colors to creating the best way to max your space. Armstong.com you can get ideas on designing, flooring, paint, furniture, and you don’t have to feel overwhelmed since you can pick one room at a time and figure it out at your pace. You can save your work and come back to it. The last site I will mention is apartment therapy. You can pretty much search online through this site and it offers articles, pictures and many of the folks are not experts they are average people who had a problem and came up with a cool solution that they decided to share.
You can find many helpful links and tools on my website that helps you get settled and make your new property you bought or rental feel like not just anyone home, but your home. Keep in mind no one says you have to complete a room right after you move in. Try to take a deep breath and realize making a place a home takes time and inspiration on how you will use your space comes at times when you don’t force it to come.
