When trying to decide where to live there are a few things that come into play. Finding the right place isn’t always easy and especially in Massachusetts. For some people, it is where work is located. It was just reported residence of Massachusetts has the longest commute. The average commuter commutes 30 minutes or longer to get to and from work each day. Other people, it’s where friends and family are located, but others it comes down to lifestyle and what feels comfortable to them or familiar. Many people who grew up on the North Shore never visit the South Shore and the same can be said for people who have lived on the South Shore. I found that detail very unique, but I guess it comes down to what makes you feel comfortable and what you relate to. I know myself when I decided to live in Brookline it reminded me what I grew up with. It also allowed me to have the flexibility of walking, drive or take mass transit to get to where I wanted to be. I know many friends and family though who don’t like Brookline even though it only takes me 20 minutes by T to get to Copley or 10 minutes by car, and that is okay that someone doesn’t like Brookline I am not them. I did a blog entry on the North Shore and thought if I was going to talk about North Shore I needed to talk about South Shore.
The South Shore is a geographic region stretching south and east from Boston and the Cape. The South Shore is composed of a mix of suburban towns, mid-sized industrial cities, and rural towns. Massachusetts South Shore has the heaviest concentration of Irish-America. Many Irish towns are located on the south shore. If you decide to call south shore home yes traffic is bad, but you don’t need to be married to your car. You have the option of taking the Commuter Rail and Red Line. Towns line Braintree, Weymouth and Quincy are towns close to Redline and towns like Hingham, and Scituate, are a long ferry or commuter rail. The South Shore is close to some great beaches, which is why water lovers really love calling The South Shore home and there are great restaurants as well.
