Tis the Season of the Holidays in Boston. In Boston, there are plenty of activities for all ages to enjoy. From the Annual Santa Speedo run through Back Bay to the tree lighting on the Boston Common. Here is a roundup of all holiday events throughout the city and more.
Copley Square kicks off the season with the holiday with Mayor Walsh, The Boston Parks, and recreation along with friends of Copley Square. This annual event should not be missed. The Copley Tree lighting on November 28th 5pm-6pm is something everyone can enjoy. The Event is free and will have something for just everyone at all ages Santa Clause, Rudolph and music by the Boston Pops Brass Ensemble, Trinity Church Chorus, and sing along. The Old South Church will ring once the tree is lit. There will be Light refreshments that will be offered by local business like the Copley Fairmount. The Copley Fairmount will host a reception after the tree lighting offering cookie decorations and more. Outside you will find jugglers, and festive music.
Boston Common Holiday Tree lighting is the City of Boston official tree lighting. Dec 1st 5pm-8pm. This event also remembers the kindness of the City of Boston and the people of Boston who came to the aid of the people of Nova Scotia. On December 6th 1917. On that day there was an explosion on a ship in Halifax Harbor. Within 24hrs of the disaster, trains were sent with supplies and emergency personnel that were heading to Nova Scotia to provide aid. As a thank, you to the people of Boston a Tree is given acknowledging Boston for helping them in their time of need. This is the 35th year of this event and directly after the event, there is ice skating show at the frog pond. This is a must see event and will get anyone into the holiday mood.
The Museum of Fine Arts offers Hanukkah Festival of Lights which includes a menorah lighting, Olive oil Tasting, and art making activities, Music and film screening. The coolest part of the event is the 8 nights and 8 Window installations. This is a free event on December 14th 5pm-10pm
December Holiday Events
If you need a laugh during the busy season of shopping or maybe just need to let some stress go while you navigate through Newbury Street. Then check out the Santa Speedo Run on Newbury. The event raises money for a variety of children’s charities. The run starts at 1pm on Boylston Street LIR Restaurant and they will eventually run up Newbury Street back to where they started. It is open to both men and women. Watch in sheer amazement and get a good laugh at the same time all for a good cause that has become a holiday tradition in Boston. This event takes place Dec 10th 1-1:30pm.
North End Holiday Stroll is a fairly new tradition where on December 3rd you can support many of your local business in the area from 7pm to 11pm. There will be light refreshments available, validated parking and so much more.
Beacon Hill Holiday Stroll has something for just everyone. Besides the backdrop reminding you of Charles Dickerson holiday classic you can enjoy the scenery that will get you into the holiday spirit on Dec 11th from 6pm-9pm. Take in Charles Street Shops and Santa will be making an appearance at Hill House located at 127 Mount Vernon Street and Tree Lighting will take place on Charles Street and Mount Vernon at 7pm. There is something for everyone to take in. Best of All there is no charge.
Ginger Bread Brunch Located at the Hampshire House in Beacon Hill offers you to enjoy the tastes of the holidays along with allowing you to express your creative side. Fridays, November 25th, December 2nd, December 9th, and December 23th
Saturdays, November 26th, December 3rd, December 10th, December 17th and December 24th. It’s fun for all ages. Come Enjoy Brunch and decorate your very own gingerbread house. Space is limited. This is a great activity for just about everyone but especially if you have out of town guests.
