Massachusetts is an expensive place to call home. Buyers who wanted to make homeownership a reality needed to look at other parts that offered easy access to Boston and gave them the square footage they wanted. Buyers who are priced out of Boston might find the solution to their problems is the South Shore. Experts in 2017 said that South Shore was going to become a very popular place for buyers to call home. A few weeks ago I was speaking to our South Shore office that has joined Gibson Sotheby’s they have found that trend has become very true.

South Shore Towns 

Quincy, Hingham, Scituate, North Scituate, Cohasset have been mentioned as popular places for homeowners to consider to buy a home. Buyers who wanted to buy in Boston and Cambridge are migrating to South Shore. City buyers are not the only ones taking a second look at South Shore people from Cape Cod are looking to buy in this area of mass.  Many people on the cape are looking at the South Shore as a great solution for an in-town place.

Home Values 

New Developments is going into the area. The median Sale for Plymouth County is $385,000 and the average sale price was $453,957 which is way under what you would see in Boston or Cambridge.

Condo Home prices in Scituate MA begin at $399,000 and top out at $1,400,000. Condo Homes offer much more generous square footage even at the low end.  A home on the South Shore can be anywhere from 1100 square feet to 1900 square feet.   If you are looking at single family homes you can look at prices starting at $299,000 for about 1600 square feet or as high as $4,950,000 and offers  5826 square feet of living space.

Commute to Boston

 Buyer’s in all price ranges will find more value when looking for a home on the south shore versus Boston or Cambridge, it does come with some sacrifices. South Shore is much more spread out so homeowners might see a  commute longer in some South Shore towns especially if you drive, however, many towns either have a Ferry or Commuter rail that will cut your commute time down.
